Melbs!
Sydney last fortnight, now I'm off to Melbourne this weekend, road-trip style with a group of friends. We're telling people it's to see the Picasso exhibition, do a bit of shopping and catch up with people. But REALLY it's to get ahead on our celebrity spotting of that hotsvillian TV/sport personality, Eddie McGuire.
It wasn't enough that we saw Eddie last Friday night on the town in Adelaide, sipping cocktails in a swanky hotel lobby, or that the bravest of our group, let's call her Bel, approached him with a special handwritten note and conversed with him for at least a minute, asked him to join us for a drink and then walked away dejected from his polite refusal. No no, that clearly was not enough! Our desires have been fuelled by his rejection and we can only seek him out in his hometown and try again.
Maybe the next note could be swayed more to his tastes? I thought Bel's "Hi Eddie, you look bored. Would you like to have a drink with us? We are not famous" was pure genius. But maybe we can appeal to him with some "onya Collz!" "Get a dog up ya Mark Llewellyn!" or "you should have boned Jessica Rowe when you had the chance". Haha! Yes, these little ditties will be guaranteed to tempt him over to our humble group, and then it will be a nasty, grabbing tussle to the pash and dash. Oh, for it only to be true!

There's such a fine line between bravery, stupidity and plain silly drunkenness and I think the latter two got me through. Plus the fact that it was Sarah who dared me to pass him the note, high school style. I’m pretty sure she dictated it too. What exactly was I trying to prove? I think that was the most awkward conversation of my last three years. Get this: three beers, two wines and possibly half of your cocktail, Karen – well, simply put, I am anyone’s. Eddie missed his chance with all of us. It could have been hot. Oh well, here comes Melbourne!
well, i'm not an expert on things currently going on in Australia... but I had a feeling that with his new head of the 9 network job, Eddie now lives in Sydney?
ah, star spotting. was it at the hilton? i can remember doing the "oh, of course i'm just casually having a drink here, i always chill out at the hilton... what? it's the day before the big day out?"
And then I was walking to the bathroom and I fell over in front of the cute young guy who'd recently joined You Am I.
well...Tim double dared bel and in fact there was no stopping her! She had a whole stack of little notes in her pocket and was handing them out willy nilly to all sorts of b grade celebrities.
I think that it must also be mentioned that during the Eddie episode karen and cassie ABANDONED bel.
we'll have to do better in melbs.
Oh, he may be living in Sydney but his heart with always be in Melbs.
And it was the Hilton. Cocktails and free beer nuts drew us there. I hadn't realised about the celebrity spotting potential but now that I do...
And yes, Cassie and I DID run away but we watched it from afar (and made mutual noises of terror). You could call us wusses and be within reason.
Collingwood plays at the MCG on sunday! abandon all plans. Picasso can wait.
